They may not be the largest homes designed by our firm, but they could be the most impactful. Lloyd Architects celebrated the new year by joining 200 others in commemorating the completion of the first round of tiny homes built for The Other Side Village in Poplar Grove.

The Other Side Village is a master-planned community aimed at providing permanent housing for individuals transitioning out of chronic homelessness. The organization employs a Human First model, emphasizing human growth as the essential ingredient in overcoming chronic homelessness, rather than merely providing material assets.

Currently, 32 homes have been constructed, which is just a fraction of the 430 planned. A handful of individuals have graduated from an extensive recovery program, a requirement for residency in this new community, and have moved into their new homes. More residents are expected to join them soon. On average, these individuals have experienced housing insecurity for over nine years.

The "Pinwheel" configuration provides 4 housing units per structure

Lloyd Architects is one of many firms contributing to this significant project. As part of our involvement, we designed four types of single-family homes, each under 300 square feet, that can be site-built or installed as prefabricated units.

Mayor Erin Mendenhall at the ribbon-cutting event on December 30, 2024.  "The work we do today matters. Because what we commit to now will shape the future for generations. And in Salt Lake City, we don’t wait for change. We make it.”
